The Six
The definitive summer daytime strain. Bright citrus nose, clear-headed, sociable. Good for a Prospect Park afternoon.
Candy nose, calm body, no couchlock at moderate doses. A perfect rooftop-hang strain.
Pungent, savory, sedating. For after the show, not before it.
NYC's hometown classic. Sharp, gassy, alert. A go-to for creatives and shift workers.
Sweet vanilla-cake nose. Relaxing without knocking you out. Universally liked.
Grape-berry nose, heavy body, easy sleep. Save for the last smoke of the night.
How We Picked
We looked at what's actually moving on our licensed shelf this summer, factoring in three things:
- Terpene expression — how the strain smells and tastes when you open the jar. Weak nose = weak experience.
- Reproducibility — cultivars that hit consistently batch after batch.
- Budtender consensus — the strains our team reaches for on their own time.
Not on the list this season: THCa flower without meaningful terpenes, brand-boosted "designer" cuts with weak lab results, and anything above 32% THC (past that number, the terpenes almost always suffer).
The THC-Percentage Myth
Buyers gravitate toward the highest-THC number on the shelf. In reality, high THC without a rich terpene profile produces a flat, sharp high without the character that makes a strain memorable. A 22% Sour Diesel with a screaming limonene profile will outperform a bland 30% "hybrid" almost every time. Read the terpene panel on the lab report, not just the potency.
Same Strains, Different Formats
- Flower — the truest expression, if you're smoking joints or a bowl.
- Pre-rolls (infused) — flower with rosin or hash added. Much stronger than a plain pre-roll.
- Live rosin cartridges — the closest a vape gets to the actual strain.
- Distillate cartridges — high THC but flavor comes from added terpenes; ask if they're cannabis-derived.
