Distillate vs live resin vs live rosin

Distillate is highly refined THC oil filtered to 85–95% potency. It contains no native terpenes — those are added back as botanical or cannabis-derived flavoring. Distillate is the most common and most affordable vape oil.

Live resin is extracted from fresh-frozen flower using hydrocarbon solvents. It preserves the terpene profile of the living plant, delivering richer flavor and a more full-spectrum effect at slightly lower potency.

Live rosin is solventless — pressed from fresh-frozen ice-water hash. It's the cleanest and most flavorful oil available, with no solvent residue and full-spectrum cannabinoid and terpene content. It's also the most expensive.

510 cartridge vs all-in-one disposable

510 cartridges screw onto a separate battery (the 510 thread is an industry standard). You buy the battery once and swap cartridges. This format is more economical long-term and gives you control over temperature on adjustable batteries.

All-in-one disposables are self-contained — battery, oil, and atomizer in one device. They're convenient, often have better airflow, and require no setup. Most can't be refilled and end up in the trash when empty.

How to read THC potency on a vape

Vape oil potency is listed as a percentage. Most distillate carts test 85–95% THC. Live resin carts typically test 70–85% (lower THC, more terpenes). Live rosin carts vary widely depending on the source hash quality.

Higher THC doesn't always mean a stronger experience. A live-resin cart at 75% will often feel stronger than a distillate cart at 90% because terpenes amplify the effect.

Why the certificate of analysis (COA) matters

Every legal vape sold at Good Grades comes with a COA — a lab document showing cannabinoid potency, terpene content, and residual solvent results. Check the COA on every purchase, especially for concentrates and vapes.

Black-market vapes are dangerous. The 2019 EVALI outbreak was traced to unregulated vape carts cut with vitamin E acetate. Only buy from licensed dispensaries with verifiable lab results.

Picking a strain for your vape

If you like daytime energy, look for sativa or sativa-dominant hybrid vapes with limonene or pinene-heavy profiles. Sour Diesel, Pineapple Express, and Blue Dream vapes are classics.

For evening or sleep, pick indica or indica-dominant vapes with myrcene or linalool dominance. GMO, Granddaddy Purple, and Purple Punch are reliable choices.

How much to vape

Vapes hit fast — within 1 to 3 minutes. Start with a single 2-second pull and wait 5 to 10 minutes before taking another. It's much easier to add than to subtract.

Experienced consumers typically take 2 to 4 pulls per session. Most carts last 100 to 200 small pulls before they're empty.

Storing your vape

Store vapes upright at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and heat. Heat can degrade terpenes and cause oil to leak from the cart.

If your cart clogs, warm it gently with body heat (in your pocket) or use a hair dryer on low. Never use a flame to unclog a cart.

Frequently asked questions

Is live resin stronger than distillate?
Distillate is often higher in pure THC, but live resin delivers richer flavor and a more nuanced effect from terpenes.
How long does a 1g vape cart last?
Most 1g cartridges deliver 200–300 short pulls, lasting anywhere from a few days to several weeks depending on usage.
Are disposable vapes safe?
Licensed disposables from regulated dispensaries are safe and lab-tested. Avoid unregulated black-market disposables entirely.
Can I refill my vape cartridge?
Most legal cartridges are not designed to be refilled. Use them once and recycle through approved channels.
